Student Heads

There are six student heads at Trinity College: two Heads of Arts, two Heads of Non-Residence Affairs and two Heads of College. Heads are elected in week one of elections at the beginning of every March. For the 2014-2015 academic year, the elected heads are Basil Southey, Nish Chankar, Thomas Robson, Joudy Sarraj, and Anthony Marchese.

I am thrilled to be one of your Heads of NRAC this year. I hope I can make Trinity as accessible and welcoming as possible for everyone. Please come hang out with Joudy and I in the common room, I promise to feed you sometimes. If you have any ideas or questions about college life or just want to hang out and talk about how dope trees are, I am so down for all of the above.

Hey there –  my name’s Nish, and I’m about to start my third year in Economics and International Relations here at Trinity. More importantly, I’m looking forward to being your Female Head of College for the 2016-17 school year!

Let’s be honest – two years ago, when I was making the super tough decision of choosing my university, I ended up picking Trinity because it looked like something out of Harry Potter. Fast forward, and here we are… Trinity has become my home, and the people in it have become my second family.

I’m hoping to get to know you all during the 7-day crash course known as Orientation Week, but until then, I can let you know a couple things about me. I’ve lived in the GTA my entire life, but I’ve gotten to travel and visit family, mostly in the Caribbean, quite a bit. I have two younger brothers – one is starting at Western University (traitor) in September 2016, and one of them is my shelter puppy, Benny.

When I’m not eating/studying/napping in Strachan, you can find me in the No Name common room (come visit – snacks and laughs guaranteed!), making gains in the Hart House gym, or walking around U of T showing prospective students around campus on a tour. I also love leaving campus and checking out what our awesome city has to offer, so please join me on one of those adventures.

If you have questions about anything from events, to the dining hall, to course selection, to something random, feel free to shoot them my way and I’ll answer to the best of my abilities. Can’t wait for 2T0 to make their mark on the College!

Hey Trin!!

I’m your one of your Head of Arts for the 2016-2017 school year. I’m entering my third year as a History Specialist. I’m an avid Blue Jays and Raptors fan, and can often be found watching their games with my Trinity friends at a local pub. In my free time I volunteer by coaching basketball to kids. As Head of Arts it is my job to manage the fun that all of us will have next year. I hope I can make your year as enjoyable as my two years have been. I’m super excited to make this year great, and am looking forward to getting down to it!

Hi everyone! My name is Joudy, I’m an International Relations and Ethics, Society and Law double major and I am your Co-Head of NRAC for this year. In addition to representing the commuter community in college governance, Basil and I have the job of making Trinity more commuter friendly. Please let us know if you have any ideas on this! Drop by our common room in the Buttery for coffee, snacks, and a place to relax. If you ever need someone to talk to, advice on how to navigate Toronto’s iffy transit system, advice on life at Trin, or life, in general, I am more than happy to chat. If you’re looking for someone to rewatch all of Downton Abbey with or discuss your favourite Keira Knightley period piece, I would also be that person.

My name is Anthony Marchese and I am so excited to serve as one of your Heads of College for this academic year. I am entering my final year at Trinity, pursuing a specialist degree in International Relations with a focus on the EU and security studies (what a time to be alive, I know). At U of T, I started out in the Trinity One Program in International Relations, so if you have any questions about that or academics in university, feel free to contact me!

Governance at Trinity can sometimes be a little convoluted compared to your traditional high school student council. The most important thing to remember is that your student heads (all six of us) are here to help you as you navigate the big world that is U of T. As Co-Head of College, I work primarily on the external side of Trinity’s governance, representing our student population at the university level as a whole.

While my eyes are focused outwards, I still hope to play an important role in Trinity’s special community. Aside from all of the internal governance meetings that Trinity has to offer, I will be most present as the Head in Welch, one of the social houses in Trinity Proper. Feel free to stop by the common room for a movie night, maybe grab a s’more in the winter time (we have a fireplace!) and stay for a good time; the common room is open to everyone!

If you have any questions about the role of Head of College, first year life at Trinity and more, feel free to get in touch!
